Top 10 2013 Food Predictions: Boomers, Millennials, and Protein

In his predictions for 2013, Supermarket Guru Phil Lempert says Baby Boomers’ buying power and never-ending search for youth will spur a trend in anti-oxidant rich food. He also says breakfast and specifically breakfast foods high in protein will creep into other parts of the day.

Small bites and mini-meals spaced throughout the day will increase in popularity. Frozen fruits and vegetables will become recognized for their nutritionally equivalent status. And like the Boomers, Millennials (those born between 1982 and 2001, will be driving change in the food aisle as well. Millennials aren’t as brand loyal as the generations before them, and they’re looking for foods that are more flavorful and more ethnically diverse.
