Our Top 10 Abstracts Going into ObesityWeek

TentationToday marks the actual opening of ObesityWeek 2022 in San Diego. So to help you wade through the many hundreds for research studies being presented this week, here is a list of the top ten abstracts at ObesityWeek.

Make no mistake. This is a highly subjective list, but it’s ours. Every one of you reading this list might and probably should have a different list. Hopefully, in the course of this week, we’ll hear about some great studies that you’ve all flagged. These are merely the ones that floated to the top our list before the meeting started.

1. Semaglutide for Adolescents

2. Glucagon/GLP-1 Receptor Dual Agonist BI 456906

Oral-063, by Julio Rosenstock et al. An RCT of different doses of this new agent in patients with overweight or obesity and type 2 diabetes. Nov 3, 10:15 am.

3. Daily Ingestion of Protein Bars

Poster-033, by Carol Johnston and Minghan Pang. A double-blind, randomized crossover trial of adding nutrition bars to the diets of young non-athlete adults.

4. Age-Related Trends in Children Snacking

Oral-031, by Jennifer Fisher et al. A cross-sectional analysis  of trends in snacking among U.S. children between 2007 and 2018. Nov 2, 2:30 pm.

5. Effects of Tirzepatide on Health-Related Quality of Life

Oral-112, by Jiat Ling Poon et al. Data on physical and psychosocial functioning from an RCT of tirzepatide in patients with obesity but not diabetes. Nov 4, 2:45 pm.

6. Liver Fat & Metabolically Healthy Obesity

Oral-055, by Ariana Garza et al. Analysis of liver fat content by MRI in subjects with metabolically healthy and unhealthy obesity and in subjects of normal weight with or without good metabolic health. Nov 2, 6:30 pm.

7. Intermittent Fasting

Oral-102, by Shuhao Lin et al. An RCT of early and late time-restricted eating versus calorie reduction and ad libitum eating for weight loss and weight maintenance. Nov 4, 10:45.

8. Exercise Training Effect on Mitochondrial Metabolism

Oral-043, by Chantal Pileggi et al. A comparison of the effects of exercise training on mitochondrial metabolism in women with diet-sensitive versus diet-resistant obesity. Nov 2, 4:30 pm.

9. Body Dissatisfaction

Oral-047, by Allison Field et al. Observational study of the relationship between body dissatisfaction and blood pressure in adolescent and young adult females. Nov 2, 4:00 pm.

10. Clinical Outcomes with Obesity Meds in Tertiary Pediatric Obesity Care

Poster-030, by Sumiyah Enayet et al. An observational study of clinical outcomes in patients who receive only behavioral therapy versus those who receive both behavioral therapy and anti-obesity medicines.
